Instead it seems more like all of a sudden he suspects Mathis. But in the movie Mathis is different and there's no indication that that's why Bond runs after her. Why does Bond run after Vesper when she leaves the restaurant after telling him she has to meet Mathis? In the book it's because Bond thinks and realizes Mathis would never just send for Vesper without coming into the restaurant himself.
